Tottenham keen on a third spell for club legend, after turning down Eden Hazard

Gareth Bale out of favour in Madrid Gareth Bale impressed at times during a Tottenham shirt while on loan last season, but clearly didn’t do enough to work his way back into the first XI in the Spanish capital.

The Welshman hit 16 goals, and provided 3 assists, in 1700 minutes across 34 appearances in all competitions for the lilywhites, but could not stop them missing out on Champions League football, instead finding themselves in the Europa Conference League.

And although he remained in Madrid in the summer, he has made just three appearances for Los Blancos, before a knee injury has seen him ruled out since. Now 32 years old, Real Madrid may be ready to cut their losses.

Another shock return to London on the cards? Now, as per Spanish outlets, Spurs are once again lining up a loan move for their former hero, after failing to land him permanently last summer. Allegedly, they have turned down the option to sign equally out of favour Eden Hazard, and would rather bring the Welshman back to north London in January, before his Real Madrid contract expires in the summer.

As recorded in the Daily Express, Eduardo Inda claimed on Spanish network El Chiringuito TV:

“Daniel Levy would like to take a Real Madrid player who is always injured.

“He wanted to sign Eden Hazard, but Conte has told him ‘no’ because he knows him from when he trained at Chelsea and says that he has little intensity and that he is not a very hard worker.

“The most striking thing is the player that Conte has asked Levy to take him to London. He is Gareth Bale.

“Bale ends his contract at the end of the season, but in winter he would not be free.”
