Marcus Rashford has rediscovered his form since leaving Manchester United this summer to move to Barcelona on a season-long loan. The Englishman was once considered the next big thing to emerge from Carrington, but his fortunes took a turn following Ruben Amorim’s arrival last November.
Rashford actually scored the first goal of the Portuguese head coach’s tenure in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, but things soon turned sour between him and Amorim. The 27 year old was removed from the first-team squad and went on to join Aston Villa on loan in January this year.
Barcelona were also linked with the player in the winter but ultimately secured his services this summer on a temporary deal. The Catalans are already reaping the rewards of putting their faith in the Englishman.
A new lease of life under Hansi Flick
Rashford has been a changed man since his dream move to LaLiga, showcasing qualities that once made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards.
The Englishman has already scored three goals and set up five more from 10 games in all competitions, seven of which have been starts. He has taken to Hansi Flick’s tactics like a fish to water and has been working extremely hard on the pitch as well.
His performances appear to have convinced the Catalans, who have now made a decision on his future.
Barcelona want Rashford stay
According to The Sun, Barcelona are “ecstatic” with Rashford’s performances and are ready to sign him permanently in 2026.
United inserted a £30m purchase option in the loan deal, which includes a £25m upfront fee and a further £5m in add-ons. The Premier League giants will also be entitled to a sell-on fee.
The report adds that the Catalans were initially wary of signing Rashford on loan, believing that the Red Devils were letting the player go because there was something amiss. However, those fears have since dissipated, thanks to his explosive start at Camp Nou.
A source told The Sun: “Barcelona had an issue with signing Marcus initially, which was the club’s financial situation.”
“But they also thought United were playing a game because they were willing to let him go. They thought it was too good to be true — there must be something wrong with him.
“His brother Dwaine persuaded them there was nothing wrong — and that he wasn’t going to mess them about. Barca are now really shocked that they could sign him for what they see as a bargain.”
The update will please United, especially as Rashford is no longer part of their plans going forward. INEOS have already provided Amorim with an upgrade attack featuring Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, allowing the club to move on from the Englishman.
His permanent departure will generate funds that can be reinvested in new signings in 2026, with a new midfielder already on the Red Devils’ agenda.
