“Thought you were mad”: Skinner in disbelief over quality of United Women’s courageous side after PSG win

Manchester United Women manager Marc Skinner was delighted with his team’s response to losing to Aston Villa in their magical 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain. The victory means that United are third in the Champions League table with half of the games played. They are only behind FC Barcelona and Lyon on goal difference with a highly impressive three wins from three in their debut Champions League campaign. Strong position Speaking to the club’s official website Skinner could not hide his delight with the showing. Commenting on the result he said, “if you’d have said that, I have three out of three going into that, and PSG haven’t had a point. I’d have thought you were mad!” He added, “there’ll be losses, I’m sure. But I think to start the way we have puts us in a really strong position where we want to be, and it also helps potential recruitment in the winter window too, because hopefully, if we can get another three points, that might be enough to see us through.” Skinner also claimed it was a “real privilege” to be mixing it up with some of the biggest names in Women’s football. Joy for Safia Middleton-Patel The young Welsh keeper was given a European debut when Phallon Tullis-Joyce picked up a knock before the game. She did not disappoint and Skinner only had kind words for her. The head coach stated, “when I found out Phallon wasn’t going to start the game, I said I believed in her. I wanted Safia to be herself. She is a good footballer so she calms the build-up. She took it in her stride. I’m honestly really proud of her.” Skinner also highlighted the quality of the goals and attacking play that his exciting side demonstrated at Old Trafford. He said, “I thought all three goals were lovely in different ways. Mal’s individualism down the side to break in the box and finish.
