Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was this evening drawn on the future of midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, in the aftermath of his side’s victory over Arsenal.

Abraham makes the difference The Pensioners were of course back in action a short time ago.

As Tuchel and co. step up their preparations for the campaign ahead, the capital outfit made their way to the Emirates, for a derby showdown with Arsenal.

And, when all was said and done in North London, Chelsea made it two wins from two in pre-season.

Kai Havertz set the visitors on their way inside the opening half-hour, only for Granit Xhaka to level things up with a rare headed finish from Nicolas Pepe’s corner.

A little over 15 minutes from time, though, the game’s telling moment was forthcoming.

After substitute Hector Bellerin needlessly surrendered possession on the edge of the Arsenal area, Tammy Abraham pounced, making no mistake in picking out the bottom right-hand corner of Bernd Leno’s net.

‘Too early’ With this evening’s Emirates clash having come in the form of a friendly, a number of fringe stars from each club were, as is customary, handed the chance to impress by their respective managers.

Amongst those to have appeared for Chelsea were Baba Rahman, Michy Batshuayi and Malang Sarr.

Speaking during a post-match media session on the back of the full-time whistle on Sunday, though, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was instead drawn on the future of another of his out-of-favour stars – Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Midfielder Loftus-Cheek was farmed out on loan once again last season, notching 21 Premier League starts amid a stint with since-relegated Fulham.

In turn, it did not come as a major surprise when Tuchel was pressed on whether RLC could yet stay put for the campaign ahead.

The German, though, remained coy with his response, simply explaining that:

‘It is too early to judge Ruben. He has everything in his hands and it is on him to decide his future like every player.’

I asked Thomas Tuchel about Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the game. Here’s what he said…

“It’s too early to judge Ruben. He has everything in his hands and it’s on him to decide his future like every player.”
