‘They already have two’ – Dimitar Berbatov convinced Man Utd won’t make transfer swoop for Premier League star who is being valued at £60m

Dimitar Berbatov has ruled out one transfer for Manchester United this summer after claiming that Erik ten Hag already has “plenty of attacking options” at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been active in the summer transfer window in a bid to reinforce Erik ten Hag’s first-team options for the 2024-25 campaign.

Ten Hag saw the arrivals of Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and French defender Leny Yoro from Lille at Old Trafford last month.

The 54-year-old United boss was also reunited with former Ajax stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui after a double signing from Bayern Munich this month.

United could still make further additions to Ten Hag’s first-team squad before the summer transfer window shuts on 30th August.

The Red Devils are believed to be interested in signing a defensive midfielder, with Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte thought to be a key target this summer.

United have also offloaded several players, including the sales of Mason Greenwood to Marseille, Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham and Willy Kambwala to Villarreal.

Berbatov rules out Man Utd transfer

Speaking to Futbin, Dimitar Berbatov is far from convinced that Manchester United will make an approach for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Ivan Toney was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past and the 28-year-old Brentford striker has been tipped with a transfer this summer.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank left Toney out of his squad for the Bees’ opening Premier League win against Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Toney has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and Brentford reportedly rejected a £35m bid from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli last week.

It is believed that Brentford have slapped a hefty £60m valuation on Toney, who will be out of contract with the Premier League club next summer.

“I think he’s ready for a move to one of the Premier League’s bigger clubs but I don’t think he’ll go to Manchester United because they already have two strikers and they have plenty of attacking options,” Berbatov said.

Berbatov on Toney and transfer future

Former United striker Berbatov admitted that he could see England international Toney play for a Premier League club like Arsenal if he left Brentford.

Berbatov continued: “Toney to Arsenal? Why not?

“I think he made the most of his playing time at the Euros and gave everything and the best that he could with such a limited amount of playing time.

“The way he plays the game. The way he moves, scoring goals, taking penalties and taking responsibility means it’s time for the next step but which direction that is we will have to wait and see.”
