“There is interest for sure”: Fabrizio Romano lifts lid on United’s pursuit of 28-yo Samba orchestrator

Manchester United’s plans to reinforce the middle of the park this summer have seen them linked with several Premier League midfielders. The Red Devils would ideally like a replacement for Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of this season. The Brazilian has been in rejuvenated form this season and has started every game under caretaker manager Michael Carrick. However, he is already 34 years old and the English giants are keen to lay down succession plans. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that Casemiro has advised United to sign Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes as his possible successor. Newcastle’s talisman Guimaraes rose through the ranks at Brazilian club Audax, but it was at Athletico Paranaense that he caught the eye of Lyon. The Ligue 1 club secured his services in 2020 before Newcastle came calling in January 2022. Since arriving at St James’ Park, Guimaraes has transformed into one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League. A warrior on the pitch, the 28 year old’s combative nature and his ability to operate in a box-to-box role also make him a superb choice to fill Casemiro’s shoes. This season, Guimaraes has registered nine goals and seven assists in 35 games across all competitions, all but three of which were starts. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that United are in advanced talks to sign Guimaraes this summer. Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shed light on the matter. United monitoring several targets Speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, Romano rubbished reports that United are closing in on Guimaraes. He said: “Every day there is a different story about Manchester United and midfielders.” “I think it’s normal because Man United are going to be busy with midfielders this summer, so it could be one or two, so I think it’s going to be a very busy summer in that position for Manchester United. At the moment Bruno is one of many players they appreciate, but I can guarantee that at this stage there are several candidates to become new Man United midfielder.” Romano acknowledged the Red Devils’ interest in the Brazilian, but warned that prising him away from Newcastle will not be easy. He added: “Bruno is really appreciated not only by Man United, don’t forget that several clubs around Europe are going to invest in midfielders this summer, so I’m sure he could be part of the conversation.” “But don’t forget how complicated it is to sign top players from Newcastle. There is interest for sure, Manchester United appreciate the player, but I could say the same for six or seven players. They are yet to decide which kind of midfielder they want to add to the squad.” “I think it will also depend on the managerial situation, Champions League football, the budget, so there are several factors before they decide who is the player they want, but the appreciation for Bruno is, is clear.” Final Thoughts United are staring at one of their most important summers in recent times and have to invest wisely in midfield. Securing the services of the right candidate, be it Guimaraes or Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, could help them hit a higher gear and bolster their pursuit of the glory days.
