The latest on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United future following Manchester City humiliation

Manchester United in ruins Manchester United fell to their second successive home defeat as Old Trafford once again threatened to turn ugly.

Having lost 5-0 to Liverpool, they were only subject to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, but like against the Merseysiders, it could have been far more had their opposition not chosen to show mercy.

The result could leave the Red Devils as low as 8th place come the end of the weekend, and a mammoth nine points off the early pace setters Chelsea, while questions on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future continue to swirl.

The latest on the boss Solskjaer is increasingly resembling a deer in the headlights, with the job repeatedly proving too big for him. While some may argue he has made impressive strides in recent years, it is clear that in the biggest encounters he is found desperately wanting.

Despite a clear need for change, however, it is not expected that Manchester United will part ways with the Norwegian, not least because they have no plans in place for a replacement. Antonio Conte has already joined Tottenham this week, while Miguel Delaney reveals that both Ajax’s Eric Ten Hag and Zinedine Zidane would not be interested.

No sign of movement on Solskjaer, as repeated sources say “there’s no plan B”

– no viable medium-term replacements or interims

– Rangnick interested but would want to be DOF

– Ten Hag wouldn’t leave mid-season

– Zidane currently no interesthttps://t.co/65Xqud8Fqj

Director of football Ralph Rangnick is one option, but would expect a directorial position afterwards, something that United don’t currently operate with.

Neville expects Solskjaer to see it out Meanwhile, Sky pundit Gary Neville believes that Solskjaer will be given the season to make things right, despite his awful results and, more concerningly, performances.

The Manchester United legend adds that the CEO change could muddy the waters further as Ed Woodward will not want to sack a manager he gave a new contract to just months ago.

The situation at United is made more complicated with Ed W leaving in weeks . He gave OGS a 3 year contract months ago and he won’t want his final act to be sacking a manager . However he knows an incoming CEO could throw him overboard by doing just that and blaming him ! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Both on and off the field, the Red Devils are a mess.
