“The best I’ve seen Man United play:” Ruben Amorim receives enormous praise from unlikeliest of sources

Manchester United were held to a 4-4 draw by Bournemouth in what was a high-adrenaline match at Old Trafford on Monday night. While Man United’s defence left a lot to be desired, their attacking lineup was unstoppable, producing a highly energised performance from start to finish. Even though United were unable to seal the win, there were several positives to take from this clash. United manager Ruben Amorim was the recipient of some positive feedback from what United fans would consider an unlikely source. Praise from a rival Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher unexpectedly layered praise onto Amorim following his team’s explosive performance. “We have just seen the best game of the Premier League season so far,” Carragher declared following the goalfest. “That’s what makes the Premier League the greatest league, the greatest product or whatever you want to call it, in the world.” Carragher then singled out Amorim as the source of United’s success. “I think it’s the best I’ve seen Man United play, certainly in the first half, under Amorim, maybe going back to the first game of the season with Arsenal,” the Liverpool legend declared. “Man United were fantastic in those first 25 to 30 minutes. It was almost a throwback to Sir Alex Ferguson – fast, attacking football, people being energetic, making runs forward, being positive, being on the front foot, winning the ball back early. There was lots of that,” he concluded. A mixed bag While United fans would not typically expect their club to receive praise from Carragher, his assessment seems accurate given United’s attacking performance. The team was a constant threat up top, taking 25 shots with nine hitting their target. Should United remedy their defensive flaws, they could become a genuinely formidable team in the Premier League as the business end of the season arrives.
