Swap deal talks have started as United aim to secure “unbelievable” England striker with 27G/A in the summer – report

Manchester United’s hunt for a goalscorer is expected to dominate headlines during the summer window with Ruben Amorim fed up of Rasmus Hojlund’s misadventures.

The Dane has a mere three Premier League goals all season and his recent form is a huge cause for concern. Things have taken a turn for the worse now that Joshua Zirkzee is also out for the season.

INEOS want the Denmark international gone but they are aware that very few teams can afford to pay big-money for the United No 9 and hence, even a loan exit could be on the cards.

As far as replacements are concerned, both Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen might prove difficult to acquire especially if the Red Devils fail to win the Europa League.

Watkins a target

Hence, a lot of backup options are being kept ready like Liam Delap of Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta. The co-owners clearly prefer a ruthless finisher with experience of playing in the English top-flight.

Football Transfers have now added a brand-new name to the list — Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa with the England international far from pleased with his recent lack of minutes.

Arsenal attempted to sign the “unbelievable” striker in January and the 29-year-old is open to leaving in the summer and a potential swap deal could be on the cards with Marcus Rashford currently on loan at the club from Birmingham.

“Manchester United have held conversations with Aston Villa over a possible summer move for Ollie Watkins, FootballTransfers understands.

Swap deal?

“Ruben Amorim’s side are pushing to sign a new centre forward during the 2025 summer transfer window and we have been informed that Watkins has emerged as a target for the Red Devils.

“Man Utd’s interest in Watkins comes amid Marcus Rashford’s impressive form on loan at Aston Villa. We understand that a swap deal of sorts could potentially be on the cards.”

Watkins has 15 goals and 12 assists this season while last term, he had 27 goals and 15 assists. This goes to show not only is the Englishman a ruthless finisher but he also has the eye for a pass, which makes him a perfect for Amorim.

He has a market value of €50 million with his current deal valid until 2028. United are also eyeing to raise a similar amount from Rashford’s sale so a swap deal could suit the 20-time English league champions nicely.
