A man who went hiking with his dog survived for a week in the open air after he stumbled and broke his ankle.
Rescuers on a helicopter spotted the man yesterday as he lay right in the mountains north of the city of Udine in northeastern Italy at about 700 meters high.
The man who is 33 years old, was hungry and thirsty but said that the dog had helped him survive.
The man was in an area where there is no telephone connection but managed to crawl to the river, where he could drink some water. He was conscious but ill when he was found.
The man’s girlfriend informed the rescue services that he was missing when he did not return home on Monday as expected.
