Manchester United’s youngsters capped off a highly successful Super Cup NI on Friday.
Girls’ success
United have a long history of success in the Northern Irish tournament.
Greats such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Marcus Rashford have all cut their teeth at this youth tournament.
JJ Gabriel also took part for United last year, and he has already risen to training with the first team and being part of pre-season squads at the age of 15.
The girls dominated their groups this year, with both the under-14s and the under-16s winning their premier competitions.
The under-14s in particular swept aside all competition, winning their final 4-0.
Boys
The boys missed out on competing in the Premier competition, as their 1-1 draw with County Antrim meant they finished second in their group.
Their 1-0 win over Sunderland meant that they made it through to the final of the Globe event of the Super Cup NI.
They faced off against Mexican side Tigres, where they fell behind in the match.
Ben Lyne equalised for the Red Devils after 62 minutes, following great teamwork from the young Red Devils.
It was Lyne’s fourth goal of the competition, and the youngster will have done his reputation at the club no harm at all after his fine work on the north coast of Ireland.
The match ended in a draw after 90 minutes and would be decided on penalties.
The young Reds came out on top 5-4 in the shootout, with Joseph Deighton firing in the winning effort.
Bill Hartley was the hero in goal as he stopped three efforts in the shootout for his side.
