Donny van de Beek wants to fight for his place at Man United.
When Donny van de Beek made the move to Manchester United last summer, the initial feeling was one of excitement. The Dutchman was one of Ajax’s many gems, who seemed perfect for the Red Devils’ system.
After a goal on debut against Crystal Palace, Van de Beek’s form would quickly tumble downhill. The Dutchman’s confidence would evaporate pretty quickly, while he’d be reduced to small cameos off the substitutes bench.
After just one season at Old Trafford, there was plenty of talk claiming he could actually be sold after a failed season. However, it’s not going to play out that way…
That’s according to The Athletic, who state that the struggling United star has no intention of leaving this summer. Instead, he wants to stay and fight for his place.
Apparently, the club have signalled they are not ready to let Van de Beek go, either, meaning the decision for the 25-year-old to remain is a mutual one.
Judging from the training and friendly match photos, it definitely looks like Van de Beek has bulked up over the summer. While one source has told The Athletic that the Dutchman has returned to the club with a ‘fire and hunger’ to play better and make the grade at Old Trafford. Apparently, ‘even his eyes look sharper’ compared to last season.
For what it’s worth, I do think we’ll see an improved Van de Beek this season. Whether he can force his way into the team on a regular basis remains to be seen – but he will get chances to showcase his immense talents.
I just hope that he’s feeling confident again and ready to show the world just how good he can be.
