“Sources have suggested…”: United wonderkid set for first-team debut after Amorim’s frustration with senior options – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s tactics are the polar opposite of what former boss Erik ten Hag had in mind with the Portuguese looking to play a possession-based game as opposed to a transition-heavy style.

In plenty of games, the Red Devils have had more of the ball including in defeats to Arsenal and Wolves but they have looked toothless in attack, something the coach is desperate to fix.

Rasmus Hojlund seems like he has regressed while summer signing Joshua Zirkzee does not look like a striker and both are better off playing as substitutes than starting games.

With Marcus Rashford’s future also uncertain, the Red Devils are in desperate need of goals if they are to have any chance of climbing back up the table.

United need goalscorers

Judging from recent reports, the Red Devils are unlikely to go berserk in the winter window and at best, a left wingback could be brought in, not an elite goalscorer.

And as per The Manchester Evening News, the solution could come from within the academy with Chido Obi potentially having everything in his locker to come up with the required goods.

United’s swoop for the former Arsenal prodigy in the summer was termed as a coup and the 17-year-old has seven goals from as many games as well as one assist.

He has also featured once off the bench in the UEFA Youth League and it seems there is a high probability of him earning his first team debut before the current season concludes.

“Sources have suggested Chido Obi-Martin could make his debut before the end of the campaign. That was ostensibly one of his demands if he had stayed at Arsenal.

Chido Obi debut

“Seven goals in seven youth team games for United would suggest he has a chance with Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund out of their depth,” wrote Samuel Luckhurst.

Chido Obi was left frustrated with his pathway to senior football at the Gunners and hence his decision to move to Old Trafford and judging from the performances of Hojlund and Zirkzee, the youngster surely cannot do any worse.

United have plenty of promising academy forwards waiting in the wings. Gabriele Biancheri has been on fire, netting 16 goals in 17 games while excelling for both the U18s and U21s.

There is also 18-year-old Ethan Wheatley, who has four caps for the senior team. If Amorim does not have him in his immediate plans, a loan could be on the cards.
