Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has made his feelings known on Benjamin Sesko, with the young striker seemingly finding his way at Old Trafford. While it was a difficult start to life for Sesko at the beginning of the season, he finally seems to be adjusting well to his new team, picking up form immensely in recent games. Still, that does not mean that Manchester United will not still look to invest in further talent. In Sheringham’s eyes, there is an ideal striker who would almost certainly provide the firepower that the team needs. The only issue is what to do with Sesko. In this regard, Sheringham shared his unfiltered opinion. Sesko’s rise at United As the season has worn on, Sesko has improved his performances significantly. While he may have had just two goals in his first 16 Premier League matches, he managed to bag three goals in his last three appearances, which notably came after Ruben Amorim’s departure. In all competitions, he had four goals in his last four appearances, including his goal against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. Even though he did not start either of the last two matches against Arsenal and Fulham, the Slovenian proved to be the ultimate super sub, bagging the winner against Fulham. Still, such heroics may not be enough to convince Sheringham that he has what it takes to lead United’s front line. At least, not when Harry Kane is an option. Sheringham’s advice Despite having an affinity for Sesko, Sheringham believes that he may not have all of the skill required to lead United to success. “I’ve quite liked Benjamin Sesko recently. I thought he played very well against Leeds in particular, linking up the play. He’s scored a couple of goals recently too, but he’s a young lad still learning his game,” Sheringham explained (via the Mirror). “There is a big difference between a young lad enjoying his game for an average Premier League team and then going in at Manchester United and being expected to lead the line for a top club and challenging for honours,” the United legend continued. “He’s still finding his game, and I believe he will become a good player,” he continued, before explaining that Sesko still has a lot to learn, which will take time, and of course, United need results now. “I think Sesko is a talented boy, and I think he’s clearly got something about him, but as ever, Manchester United need results now. They need to bring in a proven goalscorer this summer. For me, they should do something that they should have done years ago and bring in Harry Kane.” “They should have gone for Harry Kane three years ago, but they didn’t. They went down the slightly less expensive route in Rasmus Hojlund, and now Benjamin Sesko. You can see what you end up with when you go down that route. You end up with someone who is just an okay player, rather than a top player leading the line,” Sheringham concluded, clearly favouring experience over youthful exuberance. Although Kane has indeed been linked with United for years, it seems that the likelihood of signing him is very low. After all, it was recently reported that the English striker is happy at Bayern Munich and has no plans to leave the club. Still, it might be wise for United to sign an alternative striker with experience, just to provide Sesko with the support he needs to alleviate some of the pressure of being the main striker at an elite club.
