Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, on Friday, spoken out over the club’s fresh links to Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘Wants to leave’ Speculation surrounding the future of Portuguese icon Ronaldo has of course ramped up in a major way over the last 24 hours.
This comes with the 36-year-old having made clear his desire to depart Serie A heavyweights Juventus before the transfer window slams shut next week.
In turn, on the back of reports emerging on Thursday that CR7 had already cleared out his locker in Turin, Bianconeri boss Max Allegri was inevitably drawn on the situation during a press conference this afternoon.
And the Italian tactician went on to confirm that his star attacker is indeed primed to depart:
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri: “Cristiano Ronaldo told me yesterday that he wants to LEAVE Juventus immediatly. It’s true and confirmed. This is why he wasn’t training today and he’s not available for tomorrow match vs Empoli”. 🚫🇵🇹 #Ronaldo #Juve pic.twitter.com/Zr3W5tWYcF

Old Trafford return? The club most hotly tipped as Ronaldo’s next destination, in turn, have been Premier League champions Manchester City.
In fact, late on Thursday night, it was revealed that the Sky Blues were prepping an imminent offer for the veteran goalscorer, which was expected to be accepted by Juventus.

As outlined above, though, less than 24 hours later, a major twist in the saga has been forthcoming.
Incredibly, it has been confirmed that City are now being rivalled for Ronaldo’s signature by none other than neighbours Manchester United.
The reliable Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has gone as far as to claim that negotiations have now been opened between the two parties, over a sensational return to Old Trafford:
Hold on to your hats: Manchester United are in talks to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Still work to do to gazump City, but #MUFC are making a play to bring about a sensational return.@TheAthleticUKhttps://t.co/Cp02FMTEgg

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meanwhile, appeared to hint that such a move could be on the cards when speaking to the media this afternoon, first revealing that star midfielder Bruno Fernandes is in contact with the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner:
‘Cristiano Ronaldo? We’ve always had a good communication. Bruno has been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him.’
Even more significantly, the United boss then went on to add that:
‘If he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows we are here.’
