Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t expect any further transfer business this summer.

Manchester United Football Club have made two top-quality additions to the squad this summer. First, Jadon Sancho, then, Raphael Varane.

The Old Trafford club can be delighted with the work they’ve done, though I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want any further additions. Personally, the midfield (particularly defensively), still looks a little light. While a right-back wouldn’t go amiss either.

All has gone pretty quiet since the Varane announcement a couple of weeks ago, with fans eagerly waiting for news on any more potential additions.

Well, ask and you shall receive, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided said transfer update, and had his say on whether to expect further signings. Sadly, it’s bad news on that front…

Check out what the gaffer had to say here:

“I don’t think much is going to happen,” the manager told Norwegian journalist Arilas Ould-Saada, with the transcription coming via the Manchester Evening News.

“If something happens, it is a bonus. You never know what happens in the world of football. But we’ve had a very good window. I am happy with what we’ve done.”

Personally, I sort of expected this after the news that United would have to sell before they bought anyone else – though the problem is all their own making.

This is why you don’t hand massive contracts to underachieving players as a way of trying to ‘protect the asset’, Phil Jones being the prime example. United are now stuck with several footballers like that on their books, taking up space in the squad and collecting massive wages.

The likes of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira just cannot attract enough interest due to their massive weekly packages coupled with United’s pretty hefty transfer demands.

Yes, I’d love to see, say, a Saul Niguez signed, but at the moment it just isn’t practical. I think we have to remain positive and be happy with the signings that have been made. We’re making progress in the right direction and we have to celebrate that.
