Solskjaer plotting surprise move for Carrington graduate who impressed in Europe last season – report

Former Manchester United youngster Maxi Oyedele has been linked to a move to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas in Turkey.

The 20 year old left Old Trafford last summer in a move to Legia Warsaw.

The Polish international played for the Man United under 21 team and Forest Green on loan, but did not make an appearance for the senior team.

Oyedele enjoyed a positive season last year in the heart of the Polish side’s midfield.

He played 24 matches in all competitions and grabbed an assist in the Conference League.

Such has been his progress that Polish outlet Przegląd Sportowy report that numerous clubs are keeping tabs on the player.

It is stated that “Maxi Oyedele is in the crosshairs of a famous club. Legia are helpless as Maxi Oyedele has a chance of joining Olympique Lyon.”

The news was revealed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking to the programme Okno Transferowe on the Meczyki channel. It was also claimed that his current club would be “powerless” to resist such a move for the starlet.

Romano stated that there is a “95% chance” Oyedele will leave the club and that it is not only Lyon chasing him.

It has been reported that, “Besiktas and Wolfsburg are also interested in the young midfielder.”

Interestingly, former Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently in charge of Besiktas and will know the player well as he was a member of the academy while the Norwegian was in charge at Old Trafford.

Oyedele’s rapid rise will certainly come as no surprise to some at United as he was very highly rated by influential members of the team.

United’s captain Bruno Fernandes was reportedly “baffled” by the club’s decision to sell the player last season.

The Red Devils would also stand to benefit from a potential departure as they currently have a 40% sell-on clause with numerous other teams after his services like Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Werder Bremen, PSV and two Championship sides.

Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
