Shock club has held “internal conversation” about signing Rashford, deal “expected” to advance in next few weeks – report

Major League Soccer have reportedly held discussions about the possibility of signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Rashford has been tipped to leave United after a difficult season-and-a-half under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim this term.

At the moment, the England international doesn’t appear to be in Amorim’s long-term plans and United are willing to listen to offers for him as early as this month.

Shortly before Christmas, Rashford himself admitted that he is prepared to part ways with the Red Devils in search of a new challenge. A number of potential destinations have been mentioned including the Saudi Pro League, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Napoli, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, there is also some interest in Rashford from the United States and in particular, Seattle Sounders.

Speaking on the mufcMPB YouTube channel, Jacobs revealed, “There are some suggestions that MLS has an appetite for Rashford. I’m not so sure he’d wanna go there.”

“But the MLS deals sometimes, not in every case, are funded centrally with support from MLS and Apple, the streaming partner, as with Lionel Messi. Rashford clearly doesn’t fall into that category but he might be able to get a package if there’s MLS interest, provided there’s central support.”

“I’m told that the club that has at least asked the question although nothing is advanced at this point is Seattle. They’ve had an internal conversation.”

“The reason why it’s Seattle is because they are a Club World Cup representative, which is of appeal to anyone they may wish to sign. In addition to that, they’re likely to get a minimum of £40-60m for entering the Club World Cup. So MLS can turn around to its Club World Cup representatives (Seattle and Inter Miami) and you can suddenly afford to pay for these stars.”

“So budget may not be a problem but we shouldn’t overblow the MLS links because Seattle haven’t reached out to Rashford’s camp or Manchester United. It’s just an internal discussion that you’d expect to advance in January rather than in the summer if they chose to proceed.”

On PSG, Jacobs explains that the French outfit’s interest in Rashford is “historical.”

It’s understood that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke with Rashford’s entourage in the past but there was a feeling that the player was using them as a bargaining chip in contract negotiations with United.

Jacobs notes that the only PSG return to the fray for Rashford is if the player expresses a total commitment to join their ranks and if his wage demands are not excessive.
