Sancho’s escape from Old Trafford in peril as Napoli prioritise move for long-term United target instead – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United could be dealt a serious blow by Napoli with the Italian champions accelerating a move for a long-term target at Old Trafford – Dan Ndoye.

Ndoye, 24, has enjoyed an impressive season for Bologna, returning eight goals and four assists in 30 appearances in Serie A.

This was then capped off by the winger scoring the winning goal in the Coppa Italia final to secure Bologna its first trophy in 51 years by beating AC Milan 1-0.

United made attempts to sign Ndoye last year and a report relayed The Peoples Person last month revealed the club were “ready to move” for the Switzerland international once again this summer.

However, Fabrizio Romano contends Napoli are now “progressing in talks” to secure Ndoye’s signature with personal terms “almost agreed.”

Tweet: “Napoli are progressing in talks to sign Dan Ndoye with personal terms now almost agreed. Discussions ongoing with Bologna, Conte has approved Ndoye as target already last month as reported. Jadon Sancho remains on Napoli list but not at current salary/fee conditions.”

Romano reveals discussions are ongoing with Bologna, suggesting an agreement on price is yet to be struck, but Antonio Conte has personally approved Ndoye as a target and efforts are ramping up to seal a deal.

But this could have a ripple effect on Napoli’s interest in United winger Jadon Sancho, who is set to return to Old Trafford this month after Chelsea activated a £5 million cancellation clause in his loan to Stamford Bridge.

United are desperate to shift Sancho permanently this summer with the 25-year-old’s contract set to expire next year, though the club reserves the right to trigger a twelve month extension.

There is growing interest from the Saudi Pro League in Sancho but it’s unclear if he would consider a move to the Middle East at this stage of his career.

Instead, as explained by The Peoples Person here, Napoli have expressed an interest in the winger and he, in turn, has communicated his willingness to join the Serie A champions.

But Napoli have already communicated they are unwilling to match neither United’s valuation of Sancho – £25 million – nor the winger’s wage packet at Old Trafford, worth in excess of £250,000 a week, as Romano notes.

And if the Neapolitan club were to secure a deal for Ndoye, who is expected to cost between £25-35 million, who operates in the same positions as Sancho, the likelihood of an agreement being struck with United becomes even more remote.
