Rodgers slams VAR officials after Sabitzer tackle in Man United defeat

Brendan Rodgers thinks Marcel Sabitzer should have been sent off for his knee-high challenge on Wout Faes in Leicester’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester United. The Austrian midfielder followed through on the Leicester defender as the duo competed for the ball in the closing stages of the first-half at Old Trafford. A foul was awarded, but Sabitzer was not booked for the challenge, with replays showing that he caught his opponent on the knee after the ball was cleared. Speaking after the match, Rodgers was asked for his opinion on the incident and revealed that he thought the United midfielder should have been shown a red card. “It is a sending off, a straight leg on to the knee,” he said at his post-match press conference. “How it was not looked at and deemed that, is incredible.” When further pressed on the challenge, the Northern Irish manager took aim at the officials and claimed there had been similar incidents missed across the Premier League in recent weeks. Asked if there was any reason the challenge wasn’t looked at by VAR, he added: “I don’t know. We’ve seen in the last few weeks some of the decisions. Someone has said it was after an incident, but I don’t really buy that one. “If you look at Arsenal’s penalty against Manchester City, Nketiah is on goal; he has a shot, but the follow through makes it a foul. In this instance, even if the play has stopped, he has followed through and straight legged him right on his knee.” Next up: The latest United news United vs Leicester highlights Ten Hag may have hinted at who will be allowed to leave this summer Ten Hag makes takeover admission after Qatari Sheikh bid ‘F*** off and get lost’ – How Ferguson reacted to star asking him for a 12-month holiday after falling asleep in training Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
