Rio Ferdinand suggests secret reason behind United’s strong desire to offload Rashford

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that the club may have a hidden reason behind their desire to offload Marcus Rashford.

Rashford set to join Barcelona

Rashford was loaned out to Aston Villa in January after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim and losing his place in the squad.

He enjoyed a slight resurgence at Villa, but having missed out on Champions League qualification, Unai Emery’s side opted against signing Rashford permanently.

Rashford has been on the hunt for a new club since, with Barcelona repeatedly mentioned as his dream transfer destination.

Barca explored a move for Rashford during the winter transfer window but they were unable to complete a deal due to their poor financial shape. But, they maintained their interest in him and now, it seems like the England international will indeed join them.

On Saturday, it emerged that Barca and United have an agreement in place for Rashford to seal a switch to the Camp Nou, where he will spend the entirety of the 2025/26 season.

The La Liga champions will cover Rashford’s full wages and have the option of making his stay a permanent one at the end of the upcoming campaign.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have given Rashford permission to fly to Spain and finalise his transfer.

Amidst all this, Ferdinand has suggested that United may have a secret reason for sanctioning Rashford’s exit.

Ferdinand’s theory on Rashford’s situation

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand remarked, “There must have been so much going on behind the scenes that we’re just not aware of.”

“And Marcus isn’t someone who really wants to talk and do interviews, so you have to respect that.”

“But I’m sure it’ll come out in the wash at some point. Is it because of a lack of form? A lack of confidence? Mismanagement? Have the club failed him?”

The six-time Premier League winner added, “Or is it down to him? Is there injuries we don’t know about? Has he lost that desire? That form is gone and he can’t rekindle it and can’t get it back?”

“What are the issues that have led to a young kid that’s a graduate of the academy at Manchester United, which is famous for all of the great players that have come through there, that he says he wants to leave?”
