Rio Ferdinand believes Paul Pogba would’ve fielded far more criticism than Harry Kane has had it been the Frenchman who failed to return for pre-season training with his club.

England skipper Kane didn’t turn up at Spurs’ Enfield base as expected following his post-European Championship holiday.

Kane has been linked with a British-record transfer to City this summer, with a fee of around £160m mooted as he looks to leave north London to win silverware after turning 28 last month. City have already ruled out paying such an astronomical fee for the player.

The striker is yet to win a major honour and wants to change that, and is said to want to join City to achieve his ambition of doing so.

With rumours swirling around the future of Pogba in the red half of Manchester too, United legend Ferdinand tweeted: “Let @paulpogba not turn up for @ManUtd training and see how the English media and fans go mad! Helicopters & police forces out searching his location immediately. #Kane #PremierLeague #footballnews”

United fans had similar thoughts when the news broke on Monday morning, tweeting out reactions of their own.

Pogba is due to return to training with United following his own Euro 2020 exploits this week, amid rumours about a potential summer move to Paris Saint-Germain.
