Revised deadline issued in Mbeumo chase as United “remain optimistic”, fans are losing their cool – Sky

Manchester United fans are getting impatient by the minute as the deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo keeps dragging on.

Initially, the deal was expected to be wrapped up soon after the Matheus Cunha operation, with the Red Devils submitting their first offer of an initial £45 million on June 4.

But the Bees promptly rejected the bid, and INEOS returned with an improved offer of £55 million plus another £7.5 million in add-ons, which was also turned down.

The 20-time English league champions had reportedly scheduled a medical during the first weekend on July, after an internal deadline of July 4 was set for the deal to be agreed between both parties.

Revised deadline

But now, due to Brentford’s specific demands, there has been a delay with Sky Sports reporting that the Old Trafford side remain confident of securing the Cameroon international.

But now, the revised deadline is before the team embarks on their tour of the United States for the Premier League Summer Series on July 26.

“Manchester United remain optimistic of agreeing a deal to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in time for the forward to be part of their pre-season tour of the United States.

“United kick off their US tour with a game against West Ham in New Jersey on July 26.

“Sky Sports News understands there is a cautious optimism at United that a deal can be struck and discussions continue internally over the next steps.”

United remain confident

The London side are demanding £65 million, with most of the payment up front. INEOS were reportedly readying a third and final offer.

Whether that will be to Brentford’s liking remains to be seen. Their sporting director had indirectly issued a veiled threat to United, claiming Bryan Mbeumo would stay if a satisfactory offer was not received.

Player sales would have helped INEOS a lot in this case, but so far, the club have failed to agree a single outgoing operation.

The only saving grace is the fact that the Cameroon international is hellbent on joining the three-time Champions League winners, making it clear he has no intention of linking up with former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.
