BACK David Tully Oct 30th 2023 Manchester United will be contacted by representatives of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos as he weighs up a move to England, according to The Sun. The German, who has won the Champions League five times in his career, could leave Spain if he isn’t handed a new contract by Real. Kroos’ current deal expires at the end of the season and, if discussions over an extension don’t begin before the New Year, he will be free to talk to foreign clubs about a free transfer next summer. The Sun claim there is even a possibility that the 33-year-old could move teams in January, with Real likely to accept a low fee for the player. United are not the only English club that will be sounded out It is believed that Kroos’s agents are also likely to get in touch with Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham to ascertain their interest in signing the German international. Kroos’s preference is to play in the Champions League so that may rule out Chelsea as a potential candidate. At the moment, Spurs are deemed his likeliest destination, but that could still change once more talks are held. It is not the only time that Kroos has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford Even prior to joining Real Madrid a decade ago, United were said to be interested in buying the World Cup winner. However, the sacking of David Moyes and the appointment of Lous van Gaal led to the deal collapsing. Kroos has spent 9 and half years in Spain where he has made 430 appearances, scored 28 goals and won 19 trophies in the process. Considering United have plenty of players (such as Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay) who like to play in the same position as Kroos, it is up for debate whether the Red Devils would consider making a second attempt to sign him.
