Report: Manchester United scout eyes up ‘extraordinary’ Brazilian as potential Casemiro replacement

Manchester United have scouted Atalanta star Ederson ahead of a potential summer move for the Brazilian midfielder.

We saw United being linked with one new midfielder on Tuesday with Real Sociedad ace Mikel Merino understood to be a target.

United will be assessing a host of midfield targets with a view to potentially replacing two midfielders.

Casemiro just hasn’t been the same player this season and Sofyan Amrabat hasn’t shown anywhere near enough to justify his loan move being turned permanent.

United may well need to replace both players and have been taking a close look at a potential Casemiro successor…

Manchester United scout Atalanta’s Ederson

The Daily Mail now report that United scouted Atalanta midfielder Ederson on Sunday.

United sent a scout over to Turin as Atalanta claimed a 2-2 draw against Juve.

Teun Koopmeiners bagged a brace for Atalanta but it was his fellow midfielder Ederson who United were eyeing.

MORE UNITED STORIES

The 24-year-old bounced around Brazilian clubs such as Cruzeiro, Corinthians and Fortaleza before heading to Salernitana in 2022.

Ederson only spent six months there as Atalanta quickly pounced to sign him and have made him a key part of their side.

72 appearances, seven goals and two assists; Ederson has really blossomed with Atalanta and he could be their next big sale.

United snapped up Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer and could now move for Ederson too.

United face Juventus battle for Ederson

Ederson has been hailed as ‘extraordinary’ in quotes Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi gave to Sky Italia, but United aren’t alone in the race.

Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus really appreciate Ederson and would like to sign him this summer.

Juve and Atalanta have done many deals over the years and the Turin giants would hope that the chance to stay in Italy appeals to Ederson.

United won’t want to get stuck in a bidding war with Juve but seemingly view Ederson as a real talent to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo for years to come.

We think the links to Ederson make more sense than the Merino rumours and certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see him emerge as a key target, rather than going for somebody who has already struggled in the Premier League in Merino.
