Report: Jose Mourinho prepared to give up on signing £10m Manchester United target, Ineos know him very well

Manchester United may need to move for a left back in 2025 and Jose Mourinho may just help Erik ten Hag’s cause.

The summer transfer window is over and Manchester United can be happy with the summer transfer business.

Erik ten Hag needed backing with first-team additions and United were able to bring in five important signings.

Striker Joshua Zirkzee joined from Bologna before wonderkid Leny Yoro completed a huge move from Lille.

Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui arrived together from Bayern Munich and Manuel Ugarte signed for United on deadline day, finally arriving from Paris Saint-Germain.

Two centre backs, a versatile full back, a mobile anchor man and a new striker – United’s summer business looks pretty good on paper.

If there is one position which could become a problem in 2025, it’s probably left back.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still injured and it’s unclear just when they will even return to action for United.

Diogo Dalot is starting at left back right now whilst Noussair Mazraoui can play there if needed.

United may need to find a left back for the future though and Gent star Archie Brown is on the radar.

HITC reported in July that United had put Brown on a list of potential left back additions.

Brown, 22, emerged in the Derby County ranks but is now shining in Belgium and has picked up two caps for England’s Under-20’s.

United will keep tabs on Brown moving forward and Jose Mourinho may have given a helping hand.

Fanatik in Turkiye report that Fenerbahce have been pushing to sign Brown but are ready to give up.

Gent are refusing to budge on their €12million (£10million) asking price for Brown and Fenerbahce are prepared to ‘leave the table’.

This would be good news for United given that this would keep Brown on the market as a potential January signing.

A move to Fenerbahce would be Brown’s second club of the season and he couldn’t join a third, so United may hope that Brown is still a potential addition in the New Year.

Ineos know Archie Brown very well

Brown would be a fairly cheap investment for United if he is still available in January.

A left back who loves to hit the byline, Brown is certainly an interesting left back prospect and he could be moulded into Shaw’s long-term heir.

One thing to factor into United’s interest is that Ineos already know Brown very well.

Brown joined Swiss side Lausanne-Sport in 2021 and his superb form in two seasons there resulted in a move to Gent in 2023.

Lausanne-Sport are owned by Ineos, so the likes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford – key decision-makers at United – will be well aware of his talent.

If Fenerbahce don’t thrash out a deal for Brown, we would make him a name to keep very close tabs on as a potential 2025 signing for United – especially if Shaw and Malacia continue to suffer injury woes.
