Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is now optimistic that he will see out his career at Old Trafford, according to journalist James Ducker. The Telegraph reporter says the Spaniard has agreed to take a pay cut on his £375,000 salary as he “closes in” on signing a contract extension: David De Gea is hopeful of being able to see out his career at Manchester United as he closes in on a new contract #MUFC https://t.co/KWrJCTX4RC — James Ducker (@TelegraphDucker) January 4, 2023 De Gea’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but United do have the option to extend his stay for another twelve months. The Red Devils have, though, been reluctant to give him another year as they are not willing to continue paying his current wage. De Gea’s decision to accept a reduced pay packet seems to have paved the way for him to stay in Manchester. A new keeper is still expected to arrive before the January transfer window closes, with United looking for a new number two after Newcastle recalled Martin Dubravka from his loan spell. Multiple reports suggest the club are holding talks about signing Jack Butland from Crystal Palace.
