RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku on Manchester City’s radar

Nkunku turning bigger heads RB Leipzig may not be at or near the summit of the Bundesliga ladder this season as they already trail expected leaders Bayern Munich by 10-points, but star midfielder Christopher Nkunku has elevated himself despite early hiccups at Red Bull Arena under Jesse Marsch.

Nkunku is now the subject of attention from some of the top clubs in Europe after his scintillating start to the 2021-22 season as Premier League champions Manchester City have turned their attention to the former Paris Saint-Germain player and youth graduate.

🚨 Manchester City are looking into the possibility of signing Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. PSG are also interested in their former player.

According to SportBILD via BuliNews, Pep Guardiola’s league holders are considering making a move for the former French U21 international but will have to enter the fray to compete for his services with Real Madrid, Juventus, and former club PSG all increasingly interested in the native of Lagny-sur-Marne.

Currently valued at €47million by Transfermarkt, Nkunku is happy in Saxony, however, and any move to a bigger club than RBL could take some convincing according to the player himself;

“If I was thinking of other clubs, we might as well forget our season goals. Big goals of our own are only realistic if we achieve something with Leipzig. Otherwise, these questions do not arise. I still have a contract until 2024 and I feel very comfortable at RB Leipzig.”

RB Leipzig star still snubbed by France Didier Deschamps? Playing favorite? Say it ain’t so. Despite the form of Christopher Nkunku this season – to the tune of 11-goals and 7-assists across 18-appearances in all competitions – Deschamps has seen fit to once again overlook the versatile midfielder when he named his squad for Les Bleus’ World Cup qualifying fixtures against Kazakhstan (13 November) and Finland (16 November).

Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby was included amongst the forward options for Deschamps but despite Nkunku’s ability to slot into no less than four positions and offer valuable versatility to a national team camp – never mind the goals and assist totals – he was not deemed a viable option.

Intriguingly, France could be in line to make the same mistake that PSG did when they let Nkunku leave the club for just €15million in the summer of 2019.

But despite many feeling as though Nkunku has the goods to become a star for his country, the Frenchman remains calm regarding his chances of breaking into the team and looks for further ways to improve his profile as a player despite the national team snub.
