Scottish champions Rangers are ready to open talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst over the vacant managerial role at the club, according to reports.

Villa switch The subject of the hotseat at Ibrox has of course proven headline news across the continent over the last 48 hours.

This comes with beloved boss Steven Gerrard, the man who guided the Light Blues from the depths of despair back to the pinnacle of Scottish football, having opted to call time on his spell with the club.

Despite Rangers being in the thick of things on both the domestic and European fronts, just three months into the campaign, Gerrard evidently viewed the opportunity to test his managerial talents in the Premier League for the very first time too good to turn down.

In turn, the one-time English international has opted to continue his journey on the touchline with Aston Villa, replacing the recently-dismissed Dean Smith in the west Midlands:

GvB eyed The board on the blue half of Glasgow, as a result, have been forced into an altogether unwanted pursuit of a new boss.

Across the last two days, a whole host of tacticians have been tipped for the role, including the likes of Ronald Koeman and former Gers star Gennaro Gattuso.

As outlined above, though, if the latest word in the media on Friday night is anything to go by, then it is another one-time member of the playing setup at Ibrox who is in fact being lined up by the Rangers brass.

As per a report from the Daily Record, the Scottish heavyweights have pencilled in talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the coming days.

Dutchman van Bronckhorst is the preferred option of many across the Gers’ fanbase, having lined out for the club for three years between 1998 and 2001.

However, if negotiations between the two parties are to prove successful, then those in a position of power at Rangers will need to heed to apparent demands on the part of their first-choice managerial target.

As confirmed by the Record:

The 46-year-old will only take the job if everything is right, with regards to his backroom team and financial backing to strengthen the existing squad – especially if key players are sold.
