Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has disagreed with fans, who claim Aaron Wan-Bissaka is only good defensively, insisting that the right-back is an offensively and defensively balanced player. Wan-Bissaka has endured widespread criticism over his inability to help Man United offensively. The former Crystal Palace defender is regarded as one of the best defensive right-backs in the Premier League but some fans have somewhat preferred Diogo Dalot as United’s first-choice right-back. Thanks to the Portuguese star’s attacking prowess. Since Ralf Rangnick was announced as United’s interim manager, Dalot has made more league starts than Wan-Bissaka. The competition at the right-back is as intense as it is at the left-back, with Alex Telles putting pressure on Luke Shaw with decent performances whenever he starts. Rangnick is pleased to have all four players competing for two positions and also did well to point out what makes them different. “I’m more than happy to have two players like Luke [Shaw] and Alex [Telles] for that position as a left-back,” Rangnick said. “The same is true for the right-back position with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. “I think Alex [Telles] is a little more of an offensive wing-back/full-back [compared to Luke Shaw]. The same is true of Diogo Dalot on the right-hand side [compared to Aaron Wan-Bissaka]. Ralf Rangnick defends Aaron Wan-Bissaka over his inability to help Manchester United offensively “The other two English full-backs [Shaw & Wan-Bissaka] are both defensively and offensively balanced players, so that gives the coach lots of options depending on which team you’re going to play.” Both Shaw and Wan-Bissaka started during Manchester United’s 1-0 home loss to Wolves but the former was replaced in the 84th minute. Shaw is set to miss this weekend’s game against Aston Villa due to suspension, handing the German boss an easy decision to start Telles at the left-back. “As with Luke [Shaw], it’s the case right now he is suspended, so it’s important to have two players [at full-back] with a little bit of a different profile,” Rangnick added. “He [Telles] will play tomorrow instead of Luke Shaw — even when Luke was injured or when he was fit, he still did well.
