PSG plotting move for United veteran, they were “close to a deal last summer” – report

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United this summer.

Fernandes was directly involved in 12 goals in the Europa League this season and practically carried United to the final in Bilbao. However, he failed to deliver another magical performance to ensure his side’s triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

After the game, the visibly distraught skipper underlined he is ready to help the Red Devils if they want to cash in on him.

According to The Independent, the Portugal international has had an existing offer from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal since January.

However, should United decide to part ways with their best player, Al Hilal will have to battle off competition from a number of clubs this summer.

The report adds that PSG are among 10 clubs who are interested in signing Fernandes.

The Ligue 1 giants’ interest in the United attacking midfielder is “long-standing” and they were “close to a deal last summer.”

It is further suggested that it was PSG’s approach that led to United offering the Portuguese maestro a new deal until 2027.

However, now the situation has changed. Bereft of European football, United are in desperate need of major sales to fund a squad overhaul, and Fernandes could fetch them a significant fee.

The 30-year-old’s possible exit will boost the club’s transfer budget but it is going to be very difficult for Ruben Amorim to replace Fernandes’ output as well as his contribution without the ball.

Amorim has suggested multiple times that he wants to keep Fernandes at Old Trafford. Instead, it appears the United head coach is looking to push Alejandro Garnacho out of the club.

Meanwhile, apart from Fernandes, Champions League finalists PSG are also reportedly keen on Rashford but the Englishman is understood to be dreaming of a move to Barcelona.
