Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has played down the club’s interest in Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The 28-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Parc des Princes this summer but may have to wait until next year.

Pogba has entered the final 12 months of his current Man United contract and isn’t close to renewing terms.

The France international could leave on a free transfer for a second time at the end of the season.

However, he has been tipped to depart this summer if a reasonable offer arises, with PSG his most prominent suitors.

Pogba has previously described becoming a Real Madrid player as a ‘dream’ but a move to his home nation seems most likely this summer or next.

After PSG lost 1-0 to Lille in the Trophee des Champions on Sunday, Pochettino was asked his interest in Pogba again.

The former Spurs boss suggested that he has enough players in his squad with who he is content.

“You see the list of the players that we have at home, we have plenty of players,” Pochettino explained.

“Half of the squad is at home. A few are on holiday. I think the performance was good.

“I am happy, and I don’t want to talk about names of players who are in other clubs.”

Pogba is set to return to United on Monday to commence pre-season training at the Aon Training Complex.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting his entire squad in Carrington this week as preparations pick up.

United start the 2021/22 season at home to Leeds United in the Premier League, so fitness must be there against the most energetic team in the top-flight.

With Marcus Rashford likely to miss the first three months of the campaign, Pogba will have the opportunity to make the left-wing position his own.

Whether PSG will test the water and submit an official bid for the Frenchman remains to be seen, though.

As it stands, the most likely outcome is that Pogba will run his contract down this season and depart on a free transfer next summer.

That would open up more opportunities to secure what would potentially be the final big contract of his career.
