Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United struggles Jadon Sancho would join Manchester United back in July.
The winger is reported to have set The Red Devils back £73m.
At the time, Sancho’s signing seemed like a major coup. Man United were crying out for a natural right-winger and due to Sancho’s impressive stint in Germany with Dortmund, it seemed as though he was the man they needed to fix this issue.
Sancho would score 16 and assist 20 in just 38 outings for Borussia Dortmund during the 2020/21 season before netting 20 and assisting 20 in 44 games the campaign prior.
So, given his price-tag and previous impressive form, expectations were no doubt high once the 21-year-old signed for Man United.
So far, however, it is fair to say that Sancho has not enjoyed the best of starts to life back in England.
Sancho is yet to register a single goal or assist for his new club across 13 outings.
Reason for Sancho’s struggles found? Granted, his last outing saw him come on as a second-half sub vs Manchester City in a game that was already well beyond a woeful United.
But even if some expected Sancho’s goal returns to dip at United, not registering one across 564 minutes does seem slightly odd.
Yes, you could certainly point to Man United’s poor start to the season and the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just isn’t that great tactically as reasons for Sancho’s struggles.
Now though, another potential reason for Sancho’s early United struggles has seemingly come to light.
As reported by The Athletic, Sancho’s start to the campaign was affected by an illness that was worse than has been publicly acknowledged.
They elaborate on this, stating that, when Sancho arrived for pre-season he had a bad ear infection which affected his ability to go at full pelt and required him to train with cotton balls lodged into his ear canals. This was then followed by Sancho sustaining a calf injury.
The importance of a proper pre-season should not be underestimated and given the early stages of his United career were hampered by illness/injury, it may be a good explanation for why Sancho has struggled so much at Old Trafford.
