David de Gea – Made some crucial saves at important times. Did well to preserve his clean sheet. 7/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Was rarely troubled defensively. He played well in that aspect. Wasn’t as adventurous after the sending off. 5/10
Lisandro Martinez – Probably United’s best player in spite of his early booking. Defended like a warrior and ensured he wasn’t on the losing side. 8/10
Raphael Varane – Calm and composed throughout, despite often being under heavy pressure from the Southampton forwards. 7/10
Luke Shaw – Defended well for the most part. Tried to get forward wherever possible. Took a late yellow for a great tactical foul. 6/10
Casemiro – Was having a good game until a bizarre decision to send him off for winning the ball. Now faces a four-game ban. 6/10
Bruno Fernandes – Worked his socks off as per usual, though deployed in a deeper role. He always felt like the one to make something happen. 6/10
Jadon Sancho – Had some positive moments with the ball at feet, but sometimes slowed the game down when it needed that injection of pace. 4/10
Antony – Didn’t really have many opportunities to threaten the Southampton goal, largely due to being a man down. 4/10
Marcus Rashford – Had a half-chance in the first half. Wasn’t really allowed to utilise his pace due to being a man down. 5/10
Wout Weghorst – Unfortunate to be subbed off after the first-half red card. Was leading the line well. 6/10
Subs:
Scott McTominay – Broke up many Southampton attacks. Played well.
Facundo Pellistri – Looked lively whenever he had the ball.
Alejandro Garnacho – Subbed on and was on the wrong end of a bad tackle. Eventually succumbed to that injury.
Fred – Not enough time to mark.
Harry Maguire – Not enough time to mark.
