Wout Weghorst has accepted the transfer offer from Man United.
The Wout Weghorst to Manchester United transfer saga seems to be moving pretty swiftly.
The Dutchman, who was only linked with United for the first time over the weekend, is doing his bit to try and push this move through.
After an impressive World Cup, Erik ten Hag has taken note of his countryman – identifying Weghorst as someone who would be the ideal support striker for Anthony Martial.
The latest information comes from Turkish journalist, Yagiz Sabuncouglu. He took to Twitter just a few hours ago to offer us all an important update.
The Dutchman claims that Weghorst ‘has accepted’ the transfer offer from United. However, the Red Devils don’t have their man just yet, as he still has to be relieved of his duties by Besiktas.
Apparently, Weghorst’s agent will meet with Besiktas chiefs again today, and repeat the ‘separation requests’, with the Dutchman asking the Turkish side to let him leave.
Honestly, it’s probably not just as simple as politely asking to be let go. United will have to pay some sort of fee (via Burnley), to Besiktas, who are apparently cash-strapped and need to generate some sort of funds.
Then, United will have to agree upon loan terms with Burnley. Whether they’ll be any sort of option or obligation to buy remains a mystery at this point.
In terms of stylistic fit, Weghorst strikes me as someone who’d fit right in. He’s got fantastic work rate and he will bring something slightly different to the table. Simply put, it’d give United a bit more dynamism in the way they can play.
More than anything, he’s that out-and-out striker that Ten Hag seems desperate to land.
