Plan B: United “preparing a £50m move” for 26-yo star with “monster mentality” – report

Manchester United are open to making a move for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand if they can’t land Carlos Baleba.

United have accelerated their efforts to sign a new midfielder for Ruben Amorim after transforming the side’s attack.

It has been widely reported that Baleba is United’s priority target to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Reports in Cameroon suggest the Red Devils are in the advanced stages of signing Baleba. However, outlets in England continue to claim that the Seagulls are reluctant to sell the Cameroon international.

Accordingly, it is claimed United are also exploring the possibility of making a move for another midfielder.

Morten Hjulmand on Manchester United’s radar

As per The Sun, United will turn their attention to Sporting skipper Hjulmand if they miss out on Baleba.

It is understood that the 26-year-old Dane would “cost less than half the price of Brighton star Baleba.”

As such, United are thought to be “preparing a £50million move” for Hjulmand, who was one of Amorim’s most important players in Lisbon.

The Denmark international, who moved to Sporting in 2023, has a release clause worth £68m in his contract. However, Lions “may be willing to sell the Dane for around £10m less if the necessary add-ons were met.”

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming there are question marks over his physicality. However, Amorim is thought to be his strong admirer. In particular, the United head coach likes his “monster mentality”.

Hjulmand move could help Man United sign goalkeeper

Further, The Sun report that the money saved by signing Hjulmand could help fund United’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

United are allegedly interested in Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is available for sale this summer, with Luis Enrique keen to offload him.

The Red Devils face competition from Manchester City for his signature. Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly already reached an agreement over personal terms with the Italian.

United have also been linked with Belgian talent Senne Lammens.
