PL club preparing tempting January offer for £36m United man as board doubles down on loan position – report

Manchester United have reportedly made their transfer position clear as West Ham prepare a January loan offer for unsettled forward Joshua Zirkzee.

West Ham want Zirkzee

West Ham are believed to be one of the many clubs monitoring the situation of Zirkzee, who is enduring a tough start to the season.

Zirkzee had a strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign, but has been unable to build on those positives. He has made just four appearances under Ruben Amorim this term and has yet to start a game.

The Dutchman has managed a mere 82 minutes of football after being pushed down the pecking order following the summer signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Zirkzee could be on the move in January, with the striker keen to enhance his chances of earning a place in the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup squad.

In addition to West Ham, Zirkzee is also attracting interest from Italy. The likes of AC Milan, AS Roma, Juventus and Como are all thought to be admirers of the player.

Now, an update has been provided on West Ham’s pursuit of the 24-year-old. According to The i Paper, West Ham are already putting plans in place to swoop in for Zirkzee once the winter transfer window commences. However, United currently have no desire to let him go.

United make Zirkzee decision as West Ham circle

The i Paper report, “West Ham are preparing a January loan move for disgruntled Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee.”

“The i Paper has been told the club’s hierarchy share Ruben Amorim’s view that nobody is allowed to leave in January, whether Zirkzee or the similarly frustrated peripheral figure Kobbie Mainoo. However, two separate sources have told The i Paper that West Ham have not been put off and will try to bring Zirkzee to the capital, most likely on loan until the end of the season.”

The news outlet notes that United are under no pressure to sell, having generated substantial funds from player sales in the summer.

As it stands, Zirkzee is not agitating for a departure but if this changes, United could be forced to sanction a transfer.

But, United would only allow Zirkzee to head out on a season-long loan, with a view to bringing him back next season when there is a congested schedule.

United are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford.
