Picture: Influential United star has finally returned to training on grass, Amorim will be delighted – report

Apart from transfers, Ruben Amorim is also having to worry about injuries to several key Manchester United stars.

Both Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee have not played a single minute of pre-season due to injury, but have returned to team training.

The Cameroonian remains confident of regaining full fitness ahead of the Premier League season opener against Arsenal, but the Red Devils are planning to conduct a behind-closed-doors friendly to get him up to speed ahead of the game.

There is also more good news on the injury front, with Lisandro Martinez also closing in on a return to the first team.

Lisandro Martinez closing in on return

He suffered an ACL injury back in February, and had to subsequently go under the knife which forced him to miss the rest of the season.

The Argentine is recovering swiftly, and has been posting updates on his social media feed regarding his rehab work in the gym.

Now, as per CentreDevils, the World Cup winner has finally returned to train individually on grass. A return is not too far away with Amorim considering him an integral member of the squad.

“CentreDevils can exclusively reveal that Lisandro Martinez trained on grass individually yesterday and is making positive progress, with a return to first-team training not being far away now.

Training on grass

“The Argentine is working hard to be back and is seen as an important member of the group.”

The timeline regarding a return from ACL injury typically includes training individually on grass, followed by non-contact drills with the ball, and subsequently team training.

A return could still be a few weeks away. But the ex-Ajax star’s positive injury update will be a huge boost given Amorim’s need for depth at the back.

Ayden Heaven has played at left centre-back since Lisandro Martinez picked up the injury. Leny Yoro can also play there. But none of them possess the line-breaking passing ability of the 27-year-old.
