Picture: “In such a crucial time…”: Standout United star pens emotional note to break silence after massive injury update

Manchester United were rocked by the news that Amad Diallo had picked up a season-ending injury prior to the club’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Ivorian reportedly picked up an ankle ligament injury during training this week and will be sidelined for at least three months.

The timing of the injury could not get worse given the club still remain with a chance of winning both the FA Cup and Europa League.

United have generally looked lost up front and Amad has been the standout star this season with nine goals while he has also notched seven assists.

His goals include a stunning winner against Manchester City and an equaliser against fierce rivals Liverpool with Ruben Amorim often counting on the 22-year-old to provide moments of magic to save his team.

Amad sends out a message for the fans

Amad took to social media to confirm the injury news and claimed that he will be supporting his teammates from the sidelines and the team still feel there is a lot to play for.

“Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury.

“I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for,” his post on X (formerly Twitter) read.

The Ivory Coast international certainly came a long way this season, from being overlooked by former boss Erik ten Hag to becoming the first name on the teamsheet under Amorim.

Huge blow for Amorim

His injury means United have lost one of their most potent goalscorers and the head coach will find it hard to replace his work-rate, creativity as well as his goals this season.

United have already loaned out Marcus Rashford and Antony in January and they have very few attackers at their disposal and even fewer who are naturally left-footed.

Apart from Amad, Kobbie Mainoo has also been ruled out for a few weeks while Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer will also miss the game against Spurs.

Which is why, Amorim has turned to the academy with five wonderkids — Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, Harry Amass and Elyh Harrison all set to be included in the matchday squad for Sunday’s contest.
