Euro 2024 knockout games begin at the weekend with the weakest teams getting eliminated at the group stages.

Scott McTominay’s Scotland are already home, with the midfielder the first Manchester United player eliminated from Euro 2024 earlier this week.

England were already into the last 16 before last night’s bore-draw with Slovenia. Denmark, meanwhile, had work to do.

The Danes faced Serbia, needing a draw or better to progress. They had to work hard to secure a point, drawing 0-0.

Christian Eriksen is happy

Christian Eriksen has had a strong tournament so far, and was singled out by the Serbia boss as a big threat ahead of the game.

Eriksen played 88 minutes but did find it tricky against the Serbs, completing only 78 per cent of is passes during a physically testing contest.

He still created two goalscoring chances and picked up the man of the match award.

Speaking after the game he admitted relief at making it through into the knockout phases.

Eriksen told Bold: “I am relieved and I am proud that we have moved on.

“Of course we could have used some victories, but we are further ahead and we have the chance to advance even more.”

Denmark drew 1-1 with Slovenia, 1-1 with England and 0-0 with Serbia.

Two goals and no wins is not ideal, but they are also unbeaten, hoping the best is yet to come. But a bigger test awaits.

Denmark will face Germany

Denmark finished second in the group, and already know their opponents for the knockout stage, with a terrifying path awaiting them.

The Danes must face hosts Germany on Saturday, a game in which they will be heavy underdogs.

If they get through, they could face Spain in the quarter-finals.

The winner of a potential France v Portugal quarter-final could await in the semis.

There are going to be some exciting games to look forward to. Whether Denmark play much part, is another matter.

They are tricky to beat but aren’t offering much in attack. Eriksen and United teammate Rasmus Hojlund must urgently figure this out.
