Pep Guardiola accuses United fans of “lacking class” after dull Derby draw at Old Trafford – report

Manchester United and Manchester City played out a forgettable 0-0 draw at Old Trafford yesterday, in a game that did little to excite either set of supporters.

United fans attempted to lift their side to a winner but unfortunately Ruben Amorim’s men couldn’t muster up a goal despite creating the better chances.

However, in their efforts certain sections of the home faithful appeared to cross the line by singing songs about Phil Foden’s mother.

As reported by The Mirror, City boss Pep Guardiola heard the chants and accused the portion of United fans of lacking class.

Speaking in his post match interview, the Spaniard widely condemned the chanting and says it’s an issue in football across the world that needs to be addressed.

“A lack of class. But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know?

“Honestly, I don’t understand what goes on in the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed. But it is what it is. It happens everywhere, not just in the UK,” he said.

Foden, himself, could clearly hear the chants and reacted to the crowd by waving his hands towards them in the first half of the stalemate.

City also released a statement on the incident, stating they are “shocked and disgusted” and it’s expected to be passed to the FA to make a decision on any potential punishment for United.

On the pitch, Foden was largely anonymous throughout the first 60 minutes and was replaced by Jeremy Doku, who also struggled to make an impact.

United’s well-drilled back line were barely troubled by City’s star studded attacking players and are now a lot harder to breakdown than they were earlier in the campaign.

Amorim will be hoping the defensive stability will provide the base for a strong end to the season that could still end in some kind of glory through the Europa League.
