Paul Pogba has revealed that he convinced Raphael Varane to move to Manchester United after he told him United had a ‘strong squad’.
Man United signed Varane from Real Madrid for a reported £34million. The transfer would rise to £43million if the France star helped United win the Premier League and Champions League.
Last two weekends, Manchester United announced Raphael Varane as their third summer signing behind Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho.
The reports leading Varane to Old Trafford became strong while the Euro 2020 was going on. Pogba saw the transfer headlines, contacted his compatriot to confirm if any was true and the ex-Madrid defender said ‘you never know’.
Pogba would claim that he started talking to Varane about joining Manchester United, selling him the idea that his club has a strong squad, which he obviously was telling the truth.
Paul Pogba reveals how he convinced Raphael Varane to join Manchester United Paul Pogba on playing a role in Raphael Varane move to Manchester United: The Man United midfielder told BBC: “At Euros I started seeing some stuff [about him joining Manchester United] so I sent hm a message and said ‘is it true?’. He said ‘you never know’ so I thought okay that’s good news but let me know, keep me posted.
“I never thought that he [Raphael Varane] would come but [I] saw something about him being on the transfer list. I spoke to him about Man United, told him we had a strong team.
“On my holiday we spoke and I was pretty sure he would come so I was super happy because he’s a top guy, top player also with the experience he has.
“He is a star, I was told he had something, he can attract trophies. So that will be great for us.”
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering starting Varane this weekend against Wolves in the Premier League.
The Frenchman made the bench against Southampton last weekend.
He is an immense fan of the club since 2005. Miracle wonders where Man United would have ranked in the Premier League history if Sir Alex Ferguson wasn’t given enough time to rebuild the team.
