“One of the issues…”: What has led to United delaying Solskjaer’s appointment now revealed

Manchester United are currently in the midst of trying to find the perfect caretaker boss to replace Ruben Amorim till the end of the season. Darren Fletcher is in charge for the time being and did impress against Burnley. He will continue to lead the team for the FA Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. There is a chance he might even stay for longer if he continues to impress. But as things stand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are the top contenders for the role. INEOS met the Norwegian face-to-face on Saturday, while they also spoke with the legendary midfielder during the week. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer among the favourites The former manager was the top choice, with plenty of the club’s superstars and pundits also backing him to get the job. It was previously expected that the Treble winner would work in tandem with the Englishman as they did during their previous stint. But that is no longer the case, and that is where the delay has risen with regards to his appointment. As per ESPN, hiring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer means bringing in new backroom staff as he is more like a manager instead of purely a coach. Why the delay In his previous stint, the baby-faced assassin left the coaching to Carrick and Kieran McKenna while he oversaw proceedings. “According to sources, one of the issues around potentially appointing Solskjaer until the end of the season is the make-up of his backroom staff. “In the job between December 2018 and November 2021, he took on the role as manager rather than coach and was supported on the training ground by Carrick, Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna.” Whether he will choose to work with Fletcher and Jonny Evans, or he will opt to bring in a new backroom staff remains to be seen. This complication could lead to Carrick or even Fletcher piping him in the race. An answer is expected within the next 48 hours.
