Manchester United youngster Bendito Mantato put in a performance to be proud of in the academy at the weekend.

Every now and again, a young player puts in an individual performance at academy level which really makes you sit up and take notice.

Bendito Mantato did that last month on his first start for Manchester United’s under-18s at right wing, with one goal and two assists in a win over Leeds.

This past weekend he went a step further, leading a complete demolition of a Blackburn Rovers side who had led 2-0, before being eclipsed 5-2.

Bendito Mantato scored four goals in United’s victory, with Victor Musa netting the other one.

It was a memorable individual performance and Mantato’s first goal is one he will want to see again and again.

He demonstrated his trickery and a burst of pace, cutting inside before unleashing a powerful left foot shot into the bottom corner.

Still only 16, Mantato is a very bright talent who is still just getting started at under-18s level. He can play at full-back as well as winger, but clearly he has big attacking talent that needs harnessing.

His young teammates were full of praise for his performance, flocking to his Instagram feed to praise his big contribution.

Bendito Mantato set to stay at United

Bendito Mantato can’t sign a professional deal until he turns 17, which is not until next January.

So understandably, United fans might be nervous about retaining the standout young talent.

However, there are encouraging signs, with Academy Scoop reporting on X: “Bendito Mantato has verbally agreed terms for a Scholarship deal at Manchester United, set to be officially signed in July.

“The England youth international has committed his future to United despite keen interest from a host of Premier League clubs.”

The account adds that Mantato could be fast-tracked up the ranks with United academy staff impressed by his maturity and ability. Clearly, he is a player to watch.
