“On Pole” – Report Claims Man Utd Are Leading Liverpool In Race To Sign French Midfield Dynamo

BACK David Tully Mar 30th 2026 Man Utd are the favourites to sign Khephren Thuram if Juventus decide to offload the France international this summer, according to reports in the Italian media. The Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Juve will have to deal with a substantial financial shortfall if they miss out on the Champions League. Lucian Spalletti’s side are currently sitting in 5th place, 3 points behind Cesc Fabregas’s Como, who occupy the final qualification spot. It means the Bianconeri could lose upwards of €70m (£61m) in revenue, and players would have to be sold to make up for the gap in the club’s finances. Man Utd have been making enquiries Both the Red Devils and Liverpool are said to have registered their interest in Thuram, but Gazzetta report that Michael Carrick’s side are “on pole” to secure the player’s signature. The Frenchman is deemed to be an attractive target for several reasons. He is relatively young at 25 years of age, and he is not on a high salary either. Considering that INEOS have bee looking to cut the wage bill, it makes the reported interest in Thuram all the more credible. Thuram is one of several midfield targets Director of Football Jason Wilcox and Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell have been busy drawing up a shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, and it would not be a surprise if Thuram’s name has been mentioned. United will need to have plenty of options to choose from, as their transfer budget is dependent on whether they qualify for the Champions League. The biggest names on the list are thought to be Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, but Thuram may come under consideration if the Red Devils are seeking a cheaper alternative.
