It’s been a difficult few weeks at Old Trafford and the international break will be an opportunity for many at the club to take stock.

A fortnight on from the 5-0 home humiliation by arch-rivals Liverpool, their near-neighbours Manchester City came to Old Trafford and inflicted another home loss on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s side.

The Norwegian is under fresh scrutiny and pressure after City weekend win came in a far more comfortable manner than the 2-0 scoreline suggests, with United struggling in and out of possession.

Poor defending led to Eric Bailly’s own goal and then Bernardo Silva scoring on the stroke of half-time, consigned United to defeat as Arsenal’s win over Watford lifted them into the fouth Champions League berth.

And with Solskjaer coming under increasing pressure, the Norwegian has been seen leaving his United nightmare behind, while the club’s short-term option to replace him has also emerged.

REUTERS) Solskjaer leaves Man Utd behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been spotted departing Manchester following a tough period at the helm of the Old Trafford outfit.

Following their disappointing derby defeat over the weekend, United will next play on Saturday, November 20, as they travel to face Premier League strugglers Watford.

And now the Red Devils boss has been spotted boarding a plane home to Norway as the international break commences.

United’s replacement plan ‘revealed’ Manchester United could turn to Ralf Rangnick as a short-term option if they sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it has been reported.

United’s preference is to keep Solskjaer in place until at least the end of the season, but if a top-four finish is put in jeopardy, they could consider replacing him before then, according to ESPN.

Brendan Rodgers is one of the names who would be firmly in the frame to succeed Solskjaer, but the club are aware of how difficult it would be to sign him mid-season.

Appointing a manager from now until the end of the season is a viable option, however, and is something the Red Devils are looking into.

Squad ‘pick side’ in van de Beek dispute It seems Donny van de Beek’s Red Devils teammates sympathise with his plight at Old Trafford, which has seen him make only five cameo appearances in all competitions this season.

Van de Beek was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. in the summer of 2020.

The Holland international set United back a cool £35million and the midfielder was tipped to play alongside Paul Pogba and behind Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

But from this moment on his career at Man United has been on a steady decline.
