Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Edinson Cavani cannot wait to start playing for Manchester United, stating that the Uruguay international will return to training next week.
Cavani missed Man United‘s opening fixtures of the season against Leeds United and Southampton, though reports claim the former PSG forward made himself available for the Southampton clash, the United boss decided not to rush him back.
The 34-year-old made a second-half substitute against Wolves before the international break but could not make his presence felt.
Cavani has missed United’s training sessions including games against Newcastle United and Young Boys in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.
Many are questioning how the Norwegian boss intends to give his attacking players playing time when he has the likes of Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Jadon Sancho at his disposal.
Solskjaer claimed that he sees Cavani, who handed his No.7 jersey to Ronaldo, having a ‘massive impact’ on the team this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives Edinson Cavani update “Edinson [Cavani] hopefully will start training with us after the weekend, maybe Monday, so maybe involved on Wednesday,” Solskjaer told MUTV.
Edinson Cavani is set to miss the West Ham game this weekend “We feel that to get the best out of him [Cavani] this season we need to get him 100% fit and not rush him. We’ve got a strong squad that will cope with having to let players heal and not risk any further injuries.
“I see Edinson [Cavani] having a massive impact, he’s that type of personality and player. He can’t wait to play and he’s working really hard to get back on the pitch.”
Manchester United will look to bounce back to winning ways when they play visitors to West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League.
United are currently occupying the 1st position in the league with 10 points from the opening four games.
