Official: Young United defender seals loan move to promotion contenders

Manchester United’s Jack Kingdon has completed a loan move to Rochdale AFC until the end of the season.

A key member of United’s treble winning u18s last season, Kingdon has been in fine form for the u21s this term.

Rochdale currently sit 8th in the National League table, two points off the play-off spots but with a number of games in hand compared to all of the clubs above them.

The non-league club took to X to say “we’re delighted to announce the signing of Jack Kingdon on loan from Manchester United.”

They also confirmed that Kingdon “will take the number 28 during his time here.”

The 19 year old’s move wasn’t registered in time for him to take part in Rochdale’s match today with Yeovil Town but he should be available for their home match with Boston United on Tuesday.

Kingdon previously met Rochdale in December when United’s u21s took on Rochdale in the National League Cup.

United won the match 0-1 with Kingdon being one of the standout performers, which evidently caught the eye of the Rochdale’s management.

The move will be the youngster’s first foray into first team football on loan but he has proven himself in the aforementioned National League Cup and EFL Trophy to be well equipped to handle the physicality of senior football along with having trained with United’s first team.

An old fashioned centre back in style, Kingdon defends the box well with a strong aerial presence while also having the mobility to mop up in the channels.

No slouch on the ball either, Kingdon has been capped at international level for Scotland’s u19s.

With Rochdale having 23 matches remaining in the league, more than any other club in the National League, the move offers a good opportunity for him to pick up a lot of experience before the end of the season, including potential high pressured play-off matches for promotion.
