Official: Man United confirm sacking of Ruben Amorim as head coach

Manchester United have announced that Ruben Amorim has been relieved of his duties as the club’s head coach. Moments ago, The Athletic’s David Ornstein made the bombshell revelation that the club had taken the decision to sack Amorim following his recent public outbursts. Now, United have confirmed as much via official communication A club statement reads, “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.” “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change.” “This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.” “The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.” “Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.” Amorim’s dismissal comes after growing tensions between himself and Old Trafford executives, including director of football Jason Wilcox. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that while Wilcox had concerns regarding Amorim’s tactical rigidity, Amorim himself was dissatisfied due to what he saw as unfulfilled transfer commitments at the start of the January window. After the 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday, an animated Amorim told journalists that he joined United to become the manager, as opposed to head coach.
