Official: Long-term United target Jonathan David finally out of reach, signs for Juventus

Manchester United long-term target Jonathan David has officially signed for Juventus.

The Canadian forward has been linked to a move to Man United for a very long time after his fine goalscoring record for LOSC Lille.

At the French club, he scored 109 goals in 232 appearances before leaving this summer at the end of his contract.

United were left behind in the pursuit of the attacker though, as Juventus pushed ahead for a deal and did not baulk at the agent fees and signing on bonuses that totalled around €35 million to secure the transfer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed a deal earlier this week but it was officially announced yesterday.

Juventus’ official website stated that “Jonathan David is officially a Juventus player! The 25-year-old Canadian forward has signed a five-year contract with the club, running until June 30, 2030.”

Commenting on the move David stated, “Hey Juventus fans, happy to be a player of yours. Just getting done with media day. Forza Juve!”

He elaborated more on the move stating, “growing up as a kid, I always looked up to a club like Juventus and thought, this is probably one of the top 10 biggest clubs in the world.”

David added, “I’m very excited. Every step of the way is always a challenge, so coming to Serie A is also a challenge to adapt to the league, adapt to my teammates, and to be as successful as possible.”

The wider significance of the move for United fans is that it is another striker option off the table before the start of pre-season.

Ruben Amorim’s side are desperate to add firepower to their first eleven and hold a serious interest in Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

They have also been recently linked to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and may look to strike a deal amidst the Villans’ ongoing financial issues.
